Keith Holmes

2020 has been a big year for Holmes, who was promoted to run Cox Business. In his previous role as svp of residential sales for Cox, he led the team to its biggest customer gains and best churn numbers in more than a decade. His stellar track record also included exceeding expectations for customer acquisitions, revenue and operation expenses. Holmes wants to see companies hire and promote more women and people of color to leadership roles. “White males are 25% of the population, but hold 70+% of all leadership roles,” he says. “Why is every effort made to make sure white males are not discomforted even to the point of avoiding the tough conversations in the first place? When are we going to stop talking and start taking action?”

The conversation about racial injustice in 2020 has been… while definitely a confluence of anger, incredulity and optimism the conversation has, surprisingly, been one that’s made me hopeful for change. 

In what ways can companies best show a sincere commitment to diversity and inclusion?
Hire/promote more women and people of color to leadership roles. White males are 25% of the population but hold 70+% of all leadership roles. For inclusion, make sure the company recognizes and celebrates differences. That will help team members feel included. 

What are some of the tough conversations this industry needs to have?
To the above statistics, why? Why is every effort made to make sure white males are not discomforted even to the point of avoiding the tough conversations in the first place? When are we going to stop talking and start taking action?
