The Why? Not only does Small use her role to set an example in representation and inclusion, but she’s also finding ways to create more avenues for growth. She created EMERGE, Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution’s Multicultural Marketing Education initiative that seeks to better understand its consumers in the Black/African-American, Hispanic, Asian-American and LGBTQ+ marketplaces. She also formed the Segmentation Marketing Council and Vendor Diversity Coalition and founded a literary company dedicated to highlighting Black women writers and creators called midnight & indigo.
She Says… “From senior executives who either pushed me into rooms or stepped out of the way as I advocated for myself to coordinators who reminded me daily of the importance of seeing their dimensions reflected in me… Representation matters.”
Bucket list travel destination? Cambodia
Organization you’re proud to support? midnight & indigo, a literary organization I founded in 2018 to provide space for Black women storytellers to share their narratives with the world. We have published 250+ writers across the U.S., Africa, the Caribbean, Canada, Europe, and Asia.
Who has kicked down a door for you? I have been blessed to have numerous people kick down doors for me throughout my career. From senior executives who either pushed me into rooms or stepped out of the way as I advocated for myself to Coordinators who reminded me daily of the importance of seeing their dimensions reflected in me. Representation matters. My former managers, Ray Lamoureux and Reggie Denson, were most instrumental to my career journey.
Coworkers describe me as… Equal parts truth teller + confidante, mentor, loyal, gut checker.
