Ike guides Charter’s video engineering group, supporting everything from content preparation and distribution networks to video CPE development. Under Ike’s leadership, the team has also been able to successfully develop advanced advertising solutions. Ike believes that the Disney+ airing of “Hamilton” was one of the programs that best embraced diversity this year. “The stage show garnered so many accolades because of its diverse cast. And, thanks to technology, the piece’s message was delivered to an even broader audience than may have been able to see the show in-person because of geographic or economic reasons,” Ike says.

The conversation about racial injustice in 2020 has been… about re-emphasizing that systemic discrimination continues to live amongst us. Like COVID-19, we must all learn how to confront and cure this disease.

What are some of the tough conversations this industry needs to have? We need to assess whether technology is exacerbating a “have” versus a “have-not” society. For example, can consumers afford to connect to our network to access educational opportunities? Diversity needs a level playing field and technology must not become an economical barrier to entry.

Which current shows (on linear and streaming) best embrace diversity? I hope it was the airing of “Hamilton”, the movie. The stage show garnered so many accolades because of its diverse cast. And, thanks to technology, the piece’s message was delivered to an even broader audience than may have been able to see the show in-person because of geographic or economic reasons.
