Olmstead has a knack for attracting top talent to Universal Cable Productions and Wilshire Studios. Of late, she’s partnered on projects with Julia Roberts, Jessica Biel and Mary J. Blige. Guided by the inspirational leadership of Bonnie Hammer, Olmstead says she’s inspired by the momentum of the women’s equity movement in entertainment. “Today we look at our entire production, not just our writing staff or directors. Who’s in front of the camera? Who’s behind the camera? Who’s in the room? I think the equity movement has been incredible.”

What’s a recent example of a step forward for women?
The attention to gender equity was amplified with the speech Frances McDormand gave at the Oscars about the inclusion rider. The speech was both inspirational and incredibly impactful. Today we look at our entire production, not just our writing staff or directors. Who’s in front of the camera? Who’s behind the camera? Who’s in the room? I think the equity movement has been incredible.

Who’s an inspirational woman you admire and why?
Bonnie Hammer. She shows that it’s possible. When I look at her career, she has always been at the forefront, constantly looking for ways to set up the business for the future. Bonnie is the most forward thinking person in the room, seeing trends before they happen. She is a no nonsense advisor and a champion for women inside and outside the company.
