Mullin’s successful marketing strategies of the past 12 months include supporting Hallmark Channel’s annual “Countdown to Christmas” initiative, which once again propelled the network to rank as the most-watched and highest-rated cable net during Q4, and launching an expansive partnership with SiriusXM to create Hallmark Channel Radio. “Offering internship and mentoring opportunities to high school and college students is so helpful in terms of educating young women about all the career options within our industry that they might not know about,” she says.

How can the industry do a better job of recruiting women and ensuring they have a path to senior positions?
I think it’s important to reach out to women when they are still in school and considering what they would like to do in the future. Offering internship and mentoring opportunities to high school and college students is so helpful in terms of educating young women about all the career options within our industry that they might not know about.

What advice would you give your 13-year-old self?
I would tell my 13-year-old self to remember that she’s smart, strong and brave, and can achieve her dreams if she works hard and is kind to others. I’d also tell her to wear more sunscreen.

Which current shows best reflect the kind of women’s roles you like to see and why?
I think there are a lot of compelling female characters on television who are intelligent, empowered, and subjugated all at the same time. Think of June in “The Handmaid’s Tale” or Siobahn in “Succession.” Seeing their stories play out is eye-opening, inspiring and sometimes frightening.
