Christy Shibata

Overseeing the financial performance and operation of the NBCU Cable Entertainment portfolio is a Herculean effort. Shibata stays on top of things by dealing with one task at a time. Earlier this year, she assisted in the rebranding of acquisition Craftsy to Bluprint. Shibata also played a key role in the renewal of “WWE Raw” on USA. Her goal is to strategically position the company’s diverse portfolio for continued financial growth as the industry rapidly evolves. “As streamers like Netflix and Amazon continue to grow the quantity and quality of their content,” Shibata says, “there’s even more pressure on everyone else to deliver premium content on their platforms, even while knowing that viewership may be further fragmented.”

What’s been the most dramatic change in your sector of the business today vs. three years ago?
One dramatic change is the continued rise of “peak TV.” As streamers like Netflix and Amazon continue to grow the quantity and quality of their content, there’s even more pressure on everyone else to deliver premium content on their platforms, even while knowing that viewership may be further fragmented. Despite that pressure, we have a great opportunity to supply the demand from third parties with original content from our studios.
