Carl Jones, Jr.

A promotion in May has Jones focused on improving digital equity in Comcast’s Greater Chicago Region, but much of his previous career was dedicated to creating space for underrepresented groups within the company. He directed Comcast’s DE&I Speaker Series, creating opportunities for employee dialogue and education. Jones also piloted the formation of the Indigenous ERG in 2021, which now counts more than 1,000 members. A media milestone he’ll never forget came from NBC sitcom “The New Normal,” a show following a gay couple expanding their family in Los Angeles. “It was one of the first times on TV that I recall a gay couple going through a surrogate process to grow their family on television,” Jones says. “For me, it showed a path to build my own family in the future.”

Advice for allies on how to show up for their LGBTQ+ colleagues? It is important to recognize that everyone may be at different points on their own journey…and you should support them where they are. It is okay to listen and not give an opinion; ask questions, be vulnerable, and stand up to intolerance.

Favorite media milestone moment in LGBTQ+ history? “Noah’s Arc” to “Will & Grace” were pivotal moments for me; however, my favorite moment would be “The New Normal.” It was one of the first times on TV that I recall a gay couple going through a surrogate process to grow their family on television. For me, it showed a path to build my own family in the future.
