How has the pandemic forever changed programming? It had a direct impact on the type of content our audience wanted to watch and where they were looking for it. For months, Latinos were demanding up to-the-minute news and information they needed to make daily decisions to keep their families safe and healthy. At the same time, they welcomed shows that would entertain them and allow them to relax and spend quality time with their loved ones. This dynamic forced us to increase our news content and launch new daytime entertainment shows…

What’s the future of direct-to-consumer streaming look like? High-quality content will win, and Latinos will be one of the top consumers of streaming content. According to Nielsen, Hispanics are on the leading edge of streaming adoption, over-indexing the total market with four out of five Hispanics having access to streaming services at home today. For years, Telemundo has been the leading provider of scripted Spanish-language content to direct-to-consumer platforms. In order to super-serve this growing audience, we continue to make investments to expand our production capabilities to create original premium scripted content exclusively designed to fulfill the growing needs of direct-to-consumer platforms.

My proudest professional achievement over the past 12 months is… In a year like no other, Telemundo was able to keep productions up and running safely to continue bringing our scripted content to all screens when our audiences needed it most. In conjunction with that, I’m proud of how we were able to support our unmatched Noticias Telemundo team in front of and behind the camera, on network and local levels alike as they delivered historic Decision 2020 elections coverage nearly entirely remotely during the pandemic. And, notwithstanding, we were also able to continue preparations for the return of large-scale live sports events, like this summer’s Tokyo Olympics and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Despite the numerous obstacles and adjustments that came with the last year, I’m extremely proud Telemundo continued to lead as one of the fastest growth engines at NBCUniversal.
