Vickie Fiala
Fiala began her career at US West more than 20 years ago, starting as an outside plant technician in the Midwest, and advancing her career through the organization to become manager of central office engineering. Her definition of a successful career? Knowing the team and herself have made positive impact on the business and mentoring young leaders.
How do you define a successful career?
For me, it is knowing that my team and I have made a significant and positive impact on our business; performed to the best of our abilities and continued to look for ways to make our industry better. Success for me personally is mentoring and coaching young leaders and watching them grow professionally as they advance in their careers.
Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?
I block time on my calendar to do things that bring balance into my life, such as going for a walk, taking a yoga class or networking with friends. Such activities help me focus better and work smarter.
When not in the office, where are we most likely to find you?
Driving with the top down on a winding country road in Virginia or Pennsylvania, or plating (what is plating?) at the beach with my granddaughters.
