Perry has helped usher OWN deeper into scripted programming territory. For instance, she cut the deal for the new series from Mara Barak Akil, titled “Love Is __,” and was behind renewals of both “Queen Sugar” and “Greenleaf.” She’s incredibly proud of OWN’s success—and rightly so, as she joined the network two years prior to its launch and is now a senior executive team member. “Diversity must go further than blanket numbers tied to ethnic, gender or sexual orientation make-up,” she says. “The ‘numbers game’ is not a diversity fix, as organizations must believe in diversity as an intrinsic value and then put it into practice.”
