As the top programming guys for incumbent cable operators’ main nemeses, these two execs are tough negotiators whose deals have helped set trends for the entire industry. Denson’s dealmaking has come amid major growth at Verizon FiOS TV, which added 600K subs in 2013 to end the year with 5.3 million customers, making it the nation’s sixth largest video service provider. At AT&T U-verse, Slator is the go-to guy for carriage deals, and his clout has only increased as U-verse added nearly 1 million subscribers in 2013, launched 100-plus TVE apps and channel extensions, and generated high customer satisfaction levels.
