Stephen (Steve) Paulus
With an understanding of how critical the journalistic reputation of TWC’s local news outlets and its flagship NY1 News is to the business, Paulus works hard to ensure all news programming is relevant to viewers. “Diversity is the essence of our business,” he says. “It is not just limited to ethnic diversity, but includes diversity of political beliefs, religion, geography and lifestyle. We are in communications, and we must recognize that diversity and provide content that is relevant to all of our viewers/customers [which is] an amazingly diverse group.”
Best business advice you’ve received?
Diversity is the essence of our business. It is not just limited to ethnic diversity, but includes diversity of political beliefs, religion, geography and lifestyle. We are in communications and we must recognize that diversity and provide content that is relevant to all of our viewers/customers…an amazingly diverse group.
What’s been the biggest story in cable this year?
For me it was the consolidation of our industry, as it had an effect on us every day. But clearly the biggest story in cable is the growing number of platforms that viewers can now use to view content.
How do you define success?
As a programmer, I define success in the creation of content that is informative, valued and highly viewed by our subscribers. As a manager, I define success as maintaining a workplace that encourages initiative, rewards outstanding effort and is somewhere that people want to return to every day.
