Sean McCarthy — Fellow of the Technical Staff, Motorola. Dr. McCarthy is also a board member of the MPEG Industry Forum (IF) and chairman of the MPEGIF 3D Working Group. Prior to joining Motorola, Dr. McCarthy was chief scientist at Modulus Video, a maker of MPEG-4 AVC compression systems. Motorola acquired Modulus in 2007. He previously was co-founder and chief scientist at ViaSense, where he led technical development of commercial applications based on understanding the human visual system. He is the author of several papers on retinal processing and holds several domestic and international patents on image and signal processing. He earned his Ph.D. in bioengineering jointly at UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco.
