Sarah Barnett
After working her magic on SundanceTV, Barnett has been putting her skills to work growing audience share for BBC America since taking the helm in November 2014. She’s focusing on developing sharp, savvy scripted programming including political thriller “Undercover” and mystery series “Thirteen,” the first in development since AMC Nets acquired operating control of BBCA last October. And she knows how to maintain perspective. “Listen to podcasts that aren’t about your area of work, read books that you get lost in, make friends with people who aren’t in the media and be curious about their lives,” she says.
What/who inspires you at work? What/who inspires you outside the office?
Surprising ideas, well expressed (or even badly expressed!) Ditto outside of the office.
Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?
Perspective. Listen to podcasts that aren’t about your area of work, read books that you get lost in, make friends with people who aren’t in the media and be curious about their lives.
Your favorite trick for unwinding?
Laughing on my front porch upstate with husband, dog and friends on a Friday night.
