Robyn Miller
With Tennis Channel’s launch of its TV Everywhere app, Miller leads the charge in spreading the word. The results speak for themselves: In one year, 75 percent of the network’s subscriber base can access TV Everywhere through the app, and Tennis Channel is in talks with other operators to get all viewers access. She’s also worked to form cross-promotional partnerships between the network and companies like AccuWeather and ClearVision Airport Network. “Without question the rapidly changing media landscape is our industry’s biggest story right now,” she says.
How can cable do a better job at supporting the industry’s women?
We shouldn’t be afraid to promote more women into executive positions. We should encourage them to seek increasing levels of responsibility, put more of them on panels, and facilitate peer networking and higher levels of visibility in general. We should champion more working moms for our industry as well, as I believe no one is better equipped at workplace multitasking than a mom!
What’s been the biggest story in cable this year?
Without question the rapidly changing media landscape is our industry’s biggest story right now. We launched a digital subscription service this spring – Tennis Channel Plus – that lets customers who want even more tennis pay us directly for it and doesn’t require distribution partners to launch a second linear network, while ultimately including them in a profit-sharing system. It’s a new model that acknowledges this evolving environment while continuing to put the needs of our customers and partners at the front of our decision-making process.
How do you define a successful career?
Getting paid for what drives your passions is part of how I would define a successful career. And surrounding yourself with people who are smarter than you, people from whom you can draw inspiration, is key. Yes, it takes ambition and drive to climb the ladder, but I’ve had an amazing career in marketing by trying to balance the demands of the job with my personal life, and I like to think I haven’t betrayed my true self to get there.
When not in the office, where are we most likely to find you?
When not in the office, you can probably find me jogging around Lake Balboa with my King Charles spaniel, Kate. She keeps me in shape!
