Berning has a lot on his plate these days, with his job overseeing ad sales across all platforms, surrounding A+E Network’s growing portfolio including A&E, History, H2, Lifetime, LMN and FYI, which will re-launch this July. He directs the company’s digital division, as well as all of its research activities. Like his fellow 2014 inductee Mike Rosen, Berning hails from Madison Avenue where he was President, U.S. Broadcast at MediaVest USA before joining A+E Networks in 2004. Since then, he has distinguished himself as one of the most innovative and effective ad sales execs in cable, using his considerable contacts to expand the network group’s universe of clients and cross-platform opportunities. With one of the best strategic minds in the business, Berning has also been a strong advocate for the power of cable and its original programming, helping brands understand the incredible transformation at A+E Networks over the past few years, as its content has made the company a market leader, drawing bigger audiences and considerably more press attention. It’s a competitive advertising world out there. And A+E Networks is lucky to have Mel Berning on its side.
