McLaughlin was just moved to the Beltway Region after her successes in Comcast’s Western New England region. Last year the region earned Comcast’s highest honor—Region of the Year for 2014. The key to finding the perfect work-personal balance is to realize there isn’t one, she says. “Sometimes the focus needs to be on home life and sometimes on professional.”

 

Where are the biggest growth areas for women in cable?

STEM type roles offer the most opportunity for women in cable, including: finance, technical operations, engineering and new product development.

 

Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?

There is no such thing as the perfect balance – sometimes the focus needs to be on home life and sometimes on professional. The important factor is that the present moment has your full intention and attention.

 

What’s the most important aspect of mentoring?

A strong mentoring partnership is one that is mutually beneficial—leveraging each other and their networks. Effective mentors are great listeners and help mentees to look at the bigger picture by asking questions and offering suggestions. Great mentees are open to new ideas, curious and may provide an outlook that inspires mentors to think differently.
