Mary Campbell
Campbell has some news for those who question the power of TV as a commerce platform in the digital age. Not only has the company’s flagship network continued to grow, but she steered expansion through second channel QVC Plus. Digital innovation is top of mind, too. Campbell’s team aided the launch of QVC for Apple Watch app in April, and is overseeing the first redesign of its website since 2007. “In order to empower others to succeed, I strive to create an environment where my team feels safe to take risks and explore new ideas and concepts,” she says.
What’s the most important aspect of mentoring?
I have had a number of mentors who took a genuine interest in my career and were open in sharing their experiences and learnings. These mentors were instrumental in helping me make the right connections to grow my professional network. One of the most important aspects of a mentor relationship is embracing objective feedback which can inspire new and different ways of thinking.
What/who inspires you at work? What/who inspires you outside the office?
I believe it is our responsibility as women in executive roles to develop the next level of leaders. In order to empower others to succeed, I strive to create an environment where my team feels safe to take risks and explore new ideas and concepts. Also, recognizing the important role that women play in building strong families and communities, I believe in advocating for the success and wellness of women through organizations such as Dress for Success, one of QVC’s featured charities.
Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?
I strive to be as transparent as possible both in the workplace and at home on where my priorities lie. With open, clear communication, everyone will know where you stand. Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. If you stay relevant, grounded, curious and passionate, you will be on the right path to enjoy a successful, fulfilling, long-term career.
