Maria Martinez
Martinez’s 2014 promotion to her current role means she’s responsible for creating and enforcing HR strategies that will support the company’s business objectives. Her purview extends over talent acquisition, succession planning, leadership development and oversight of wellness and rewards programs. “Technology related roles are a big opportunity for growth of female talent,” she says.
Where are the biggest growth areas for women in cable?
Technology related roles are a big opportunity for growth of female talent. I believe that many roles that have a technology component may still be viewed as traditionally male roles and while we’ve made tremendous inroads, I believe we still have an opportunity to develop interest in young women to pursue careers in technology.
What/who inspires you at work? What/who inspires you outside the office?
At work, I’m often inspired by members of my own team. On a daily basis, I hear ideas or get asked questions that are innovative and provocative. I love watching people grow and I’m happy to be part of that growth because of how much value I gain from it as well. Outside of work, my children and my parents inspire me.
Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?
I think it’s important to understand what your own personal needs are and then find an organization that matches those values. How one integrates work and personal life is unique to the individual but what isn’t unique is whether a company values and supports those needs. I’m proud to work for a company that understands and appreciates that work, family, personal time are all important and it’s the healthy balance of those that makes us more productive and engaged employees.
