This year Schmidt and her team designed, built and shipped the new TiVo Roamio Series5 DVR. This software is currently deployed with eight cable operators in the U.S., and two in Europe. Her design and engineering team is working on some exciting new features for TiVo’s DVR, IP-STB, iOS & Android apps, and TiVo Everywhere web portal, which are expected to create an even more personal connection between cable customers and the vast catalog of linear, on demand and over-the-top video available to them. Integrating Netflix into cable devices has been the biggest story in cable this year, according to Schmidt.

What’s been the biggest story in cable this year?

Integrating Netflix into Cable devices. Consumers want the content, and marrying it alongside cable’s content in an integrated experience makes customers less likely to switch to another device, (and less likely to switch off cable entirely).

Best trick for maintaining the personal-professional life balance?

One shared and prioritized to do list for both sides of my life. I don’t have hard boundaries — sometimes family things bubble to the top, sometimes it is work stuff. Optimize throughput!

When not in the office, where are we most likely to find you?

Traveling the world with my family.  This next year will take us to India and Scotland.
