Madeline Rogers
Marketing & Promotions Coordinator, Viamedia
This avid sky-diver knows how to tackle things head first. At Viamedia Rogers focuses on sales support, with an emphasis on promotions, event planning and internal communications. She organized the company’s just-completed Breeder’s Cup NYC event, establishing Heaven Hill Distilleries as Viamedia’s bourbon sponsor, and worked with NBCU to execute an event for Sunbury Motors’ 100-year anniversary that featured “Real Housewives of New York” talent. One habit that makes her successful? Obsessiveness, she says.
What is one habit that makes you most successful?
Obsessiveness. Someone sent me an article two years ago called “Over Prepare, Then Go with the Flow”. That post-it note sentence is still on my desk today. My obsessiveness helps me to be organized and pay close attention to detail. Obsessing over details drags me to think, “What could go wrong, and how can I prepare for that?”
What is the best advice you’ve ever gotten?
I have three posted on my desk every day. (As a major rule follower it’s hard for me to deliberately not follow the instructions…) The first: “Push Yourself.” Two: “Say sorry.” This is not easy for me but when you admit you’re wrong it makes fixing it easier. Finally: “Don’t worry. Worrying causes wrinkles and Botox is expensive.” This is a daily reminder for me – do the best you can and it will always work out.
Who has been your biggest mentor and why?
My former co-worker and friend, Kathleen O’Hara. Kathleen hired me as an intern during my last semester of college. Her professionalism, drive, sincerity and friendship have helped me grow into and define my role. She brings out the “doer” in me by encouraging, “if you don’t like it, fix it”. She empowers and challenges me – personally and professionally. She’s also a great card giver – thank you notes, thinking of you notes, this is funny notes – who doesn’t like a card? I’m thankful she hired me as a Viamedia intern years ago and am lucky to have worked alongside her for two plus years.
What tech item or social platform could/couldn’t you live without?
Definitely my iPhone (with the mophie charging case of course). It is the complete package. It has my money. It can hail me an uber. It keeps me on track with my outlook calendar and email. And, it keeps me entertained with social media, trivia apps and my favorite sports blog – Kentucky Sports Radio.
