We’re fascinated by nature shows that introduce us to rugged individuals who have rejected modern conveniences to embody the adage: “I don’t work for a living, I live for a living.” That’s exactly what these characters do in the frozen North, figuring out how to survive the winter and sustain life on their own terms, whether it’s gathering fuel for a fire or cultivating vegetables that can barely grow in these environments. As far as we’re concerned, “Life Below Zero” never gets a chilly reception.
