Kristin Dolan
Whatever the future of the company, Dolan’s fingerprints are all over Cablevision’s transition from a traditional cable provider to a premier connectivity company. She’s overseen the launch of new products and initiatives to meet the evolving needs of consumers, and is a frequent speaker at many industry conferences, recently the 2015 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. When Dolan needs to unwind she looks no further than her own supportive clan. For women in cable, “I see tremendous opportunities in two areas—service and technology,” she says.
Where are the biggest growth areas for women in cable?
I see tremendous opportunities in two areas–service and technology. In the service world, customer support work may not seem glamorous but can lead to many opportunities–to lead teams, to design and implement a customer experience and learn how a large service-oriented company operates. In the technology space, as we move towards open development platforms, IP television, and advanced advertising and analytics, there is a lot of room for growth in interface design, data science, and other areas. In both of these fields, jobs that may not initially be considered can be gateways to really interesting and gratifying careers.
What/who inspires you at work? What/who inspires you outside the office?
I am constantly surrounded with people who inspire me: my family, friends and co-workers. These are the people who keep me grounded, focused and energetic, in both my professional and personal life.
Your favorite trick for unwinding?
Spending quality time with my two young boys, their four older brothers and my husband. Sports, music events, traveling and having interesting life experiences with my family always helps me focus on the world outside of work.
