Hunter Thomson
Hunter Thomson
Director of National Accounts, Scripps Networks Interactive
Promoted to director earlier this year, Thomson is a standout member of his national account team, having successfully secured opportunities to grow distribution, drive revenue and ratings growth. His biggest mentor? “My father,” Thompson says. “He is my hero and also my #1 biggest fan. From his success as a Major in the Air Force to his incredible love and support for our family, he has helped me become the man I am today.”
What makes you most excited about this industry as you advance in your career?
Consumer behavior in our industry is changing every day. Millennials have different viewing habits and patterns than older generations. The industry is adapting with the success of TVE launches over the past couple years. I’m very excited to see how consumers react to OTT offerings with Sony and DISH launching products soon. From a consumer standpoint, I’m personally excited to see how the industry continues to shift with new competitors and products launching over the next few years.
What would be your ultimate dream job?
Honestly, I haven’t identified a “dream job” for me quite yet. At this point in my career, I’m excited to pursue new challenges and learn about different areas of the business. I’ve had the chance to work for the distributor side of the business with DISH and the content side with Scripps Networks Interactive. I would enjoy the opportunity to work directly for a network (i.e. HGTV, Food Network) at some point. All of that said though, I’m thankful to work for a great company at SNI which has provided me with incredible opportunities over the past 3.5 years.
Who has been your biggest mentor and why?
My father. He is my hero and also my #1 biggest fan. From his success as a Major in the Air Force to his incredible love and support for our family, he has helped me become the man I am today. Recently, my father was diagnosed with Stage 4 throat cancer. He battled extremely hard for 6 months and today has been in remission for almost 90 days. His extreme resilience and courage through this battle will always inspire me in life.
