When it comes to History Channel, it’s hard to think of another cable net that has come so far so fast. With original programming that garners the kind of attention and ratings once reserved for much “bigger” rivals, History has become a major part of the pop-culture zeitgeist—and it’s largely because of the efforts of this talented PR team led by SVP Lynn Gardner. To be sure, 2013 was a banner year, with massive buzz surrounding both “The Bible” mini-series as well as epic original series “Vikings,” which broke through the clutter despite no recognizable stars. Meanwhile, this team’s Emmys campaign garnered 11 nominations and 5 wins, an incredible feat for a network that was known primarily for its WWII-themed documentary airings a few short years ago. Fast forward to today, and History is a top 5 cable network that set audience records in 2013 and even pushed Vikings to become a #1 trending topic during Comic-Con this year. Not only was History able to make a splash at the biggest geek gathering on the planet, but Equitrend named it the top cable brand—a mainstream validation of its communications and PR efforts in recent years. Under Gardner’s strong guidance, this team has achieved great things with this now iconic brand. And we expect more is to come.
