Discovery Communications
Discovery has weathered plenty of change in recent years, with CEO David Zaslav reshuffling positions, networks and employee rolls in an effort to squeeze every ounce of potential out of this cable content staple. But with a headquarters in Silver Spring, MD, outside the New York City-Los Angeles flyover corridor, Discovery has been smart to focus on its talent, promoting a whopping 477 employees in 2011. That kind of opportunity comes with a generous slate of employee benefits that has made it one of the most sought after employers in cable. Discovery’s on-site wellness center in Silver Spring is perhaps the best example of putting employees first, with services including free on-site exercise classes, along with fitness reimbursements. It’s also just a fun place to work, with everything from roaming ice cream carts to haiku/short story contests. There’s even an on-site daycare center with a playground for more than 100 employees’ children. Tuition reimbursement, mentoring, a generous 401K match, many women in leadership roles – the list goes on. Maybe that’s why Discovery’s latest employee survey found that 96% of employees were “proud” to work for the company. We’re proud to list it here.
