Brigette McCray
Since she began overseeing the Migration Task Force this spring, McCray has successfully shifted several Scripps series to different nights. Her scheduling strategies led to Travel Channel’s highest weekend ratings in network history. McCray knows first-hand the benefits of loving your job. “I believe lots of people can be good at a job, but you can only be great at something you really love,” she says.
Who has been your strongest mentor, and why?
It’s impossible to name one—I’ve been privileged with many wonderful mentors throughout my career who have provided guidance, support and opportunity and I’ve also had the pleasure to be a mentor to others which has enriched my own experiences and afforded me more learning and inspiration.
What qualities do you look for when making a new hire?
I look for people who have a real passion for our business and a strong drive to succeed. Also important–creative thinkers who contribute ideas and question assumptions not just people who follow directions. I love my job and want to work with people who love their jobs as much if not more than I do. I believe lots of people can be good at a job, but you can only be great at something you really love.
