Smith, a 20-year veteran with Comcast, recently launched 2-gig service to bring Florida customers the fastest speed in the country. She has provided career advice, business insights and guidance to many through her work as a board member of the Florida Cable Television Association. “I would like to see more women in the technical operations and engineering departments,” she says.

Where are the biggest growth areas for women in cable?
From a field perspective I would like to see more women in the technical operations and engineering departments. We are always in need of talent in these areas and women tend to be underrepresented in these groups.

What’s the most important aspect of mentoring?
Successful mentoring needs to be a two-way relationship. I enjoy mentoring women who have a ton of talent and who are willing to enhance the skills they need to take on additional responsibility in the future. They need to be prepared to put in the time necessary to grow themselves and their career.
