With so many quality series now populating the TV universe, FX’s “The Americans” remains a standout. Whether it’s the top-notch acting, the character-driven writing or the attention to detail as we’re forced to care about people who we should consider the enemy—even as they play a deadly game of chess with other characters for whom we’re also rooting. It’s a confusing ride for die-hard viewers. But it’s also the best show on TV.
