When she’s not running Cablefax.com, posting on social media platforms or attending NYC events, our own senior community editor Kaylee Hultgren enjoys traveling the globe and learning new languages. Her most recent trip was this month. Kaylee and a group of volunteers from the NGO Roots of Development visited the rural town of Gran Sous, Haiti. It means “great source” in Creole, named for the community’s water source.

“It takes a boat ride from the mainland and a two-hour ride up the mountain in a pick up truck jam-packed with people to get to this remote community. But once you’re there, you’re welcomed as if it’s your own home.” Kaylee visited the community five years prior, so this trip was like a reunion with old friends. “We saw how the developments within the community had progressed throughout the years, including a sustainable water filtration system, a women-run dry goods store, and numerous homes built for families who were living in dilapidated surroundings.” You can check out more here at Roots’ website.
