Broadcast group TVfreedom.org reports it distributed 1,000 free HDTV antennas to DC-area residents Saturday in just over one hour. The event, held at DC’s Eastern Market, is part of a 25-city “Broadcast TV Liberation Tour” meant to help Americans realize that they can watch free, over-the-air TV.

As part of the festivities, LG Electronics gave away a free LG 42-inch LED flat-panel HDTV to DC resident Andrew Miller, a middle school history teacher in Prince George’s County, MD.

The antenna giveaway tour is expected to start back up in 2015. “Today was an empowering day for TV viewers in Washington, DC,” said TVfreedom spokesman Robert Kenny. “The power and reach of free, local broadcast television was on full display.
