WildBlue Communications has announced the successful start of broadband Internet service on a third satellite, EchoStar’s AMC-15. The new satellite will serve rural customers in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia and Arkansas.

"Broadband Internet service becomes more essential every day, especially in rural America," said David Leonard, CEO of WildBlue. "By adding AMC-15 to our network, WildBlue is making an aggressive move to serve more customers who have no other options beyond dial-up service. We intend to keep expanding our satellite network to meet the demand for high-speed Internet service everywhere."

WildBlue recently surpassed the 400,000-customer mark. In March, WildBlue announced an agreement to lease Ka band capacity on the AMC-15 satellite from Colorado-based EchoStar Satellite Services, a division of EchoStar Corporation.
