TV White-Spaces Plans Go Global
The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Hitachi Kokusai Electric Inc. and ISB Corporation have developed what they say is the world’s first prototypes of base-station and consumer-premise gear based on the IEEE 802.22 standard operating in TV white spaces (470 MHz-710 MHz). The trio expects the related prototypes and commercial gear to provide wireless broadband access to global underserved and unserved regions, as well as reliable backup broadband in emergency situations. The partners also plan to work with the WhiteSpace Alliance to provide products aimed at worldwide markets.
