TIA Forwards ICT Agenda To The White House
Now that all the election/inaugural hoopla has ended and Congress has gone back to work, the TIA provided President Obama with detailed recommendations regarding Hill action on high-skilled immigration, comprehensive tax reform and the re-allocation of federal spectrum to commercial use. Linking growth in the ICT sector to jobs, new manufacturing and new technology across all business verticals, the group also asked the Administration to implement new initiatives related to TIA’s "Innovation Agenda:" recapture global competitiveness, drive investment and enable forward-looking technologies.
TV White-Spaces Plans Go Global
The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Hitachi Kokusai Electric Inc. and ISB Corporation have developed what they say is the world’s first prototypes of base-station and consumer-premise gear based on the IEEE 802.22 standard operating in TV white spaces (470 MHz-710 MHz). The trio expects the related prototypes and commercial gear to provide wireless broadband access to global underserved and unserved regions, as well as reliable backup broadband in emergency situations. The partners also plan to work with the WhiteSpace Alliance to provide products aimed at worldwide markets. In this country, look for even more equipment aimed at rural markets, including so-called “Super Wi-Fi” for broadband services of all flavors.
