TiVo gave away about 2K DVRs Fri to Comcast subs who brought in a copies of their cable bills and gifts for charity (Cfax, 12/17). Those who came after all the freebies were gone were given $50 coupons for a TiVo DVR (the coupon is on top of a $100 rebate, putting the DVR’s price tag at $50). TiVo hatched the scheme after learning that, due to demand, Bay Area customers were waiting 2-3 weeks for installation of Comcast’s just-launched DVR service.
