Alcatel-Lucent has engaged in a fiber-optic network project with Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom to build a gigabit passive optical network (GPON). The fiber-based infrastructure will enable Chunghwa Telecom to provide triple-play services to its residential and business customers. Commercial operation of the initial phase of Chunghwa’s GPON network is set to commence by the third quarter 2011.
Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its 7342 Intelligent Services Access Manager Fiber-to-the-User (ISAM FTTU). The GPON platform will be complemented by the Alcatel-Lucent 5520 Access Management System (AMS) next-generation element management system.
