Smit Leaves Charter, Joins Comcast as Cable President
Comcast announced today that Neil Smit will join Comcast Cable Communications as president. Smit will report to Steve Burke, chief operating officer of Comcast. He will be responsible for all business aspects of the company’s cable operations.
Smit joins Comcast from Charter Communications where he has served as chief executive officer and director since 2005.
Prior to Charter, Smit was the president of Time Warner’s America Online Access Business overseeing Internet access services, including America Online (AOL), CompuServe and Netscape ISPs. He also served at AOL as executive vice president, member services, and chief operating officer of MapQuest.
In his role at Charter, Smit served on the boards of the National Cable and Telecommunications Association, CableLabs and C-Span.
He has a bachelor’s of science degree from Duke University and a master’s degree from Tufts University’s Fletcher School.
Smit will relocate to Philadelphia with his wife and sons.
