— SCTE 130-10 2013-Stream Restriction Data Model (SRDM), now available from the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers and edited by Les Carter, vice president/chief architect at BlackArrow, is part of the SCTE 130 suite of Digital Program Insertion—Advertising Systems Interfaces that help operators ensure the interoperability and procedures needed to deploy advanced advertising services in a multivendor environment. The document defines how programmers and operators selectively can disable Fast Forward functionality when needed or desired while preserving the capability within other portions of the on-demand stream.

— The Sprint Data Link and Static IP networking services now operate over the carrier’s 4G LTE network while continuing to be compatible with 3G. The offerings include upgrades Sprint says make it easier for businesses and government agencies to deploy, manage and extend an enterprise network to modems, tablets and handsets.
 
— The Cache Xpander, a scalable caching addition to Concurrent’s MediaHawk VX Unified Content Delivery Solution, increases the amount of cache that can be configured at the edge of the network, thus allowing operators to deploy larger video content libraries and to better manage Content Delivery Network (CDN) traffic across the network backbone, the company says. Cache Xpander allows network attached storage units to be connected to and shared across multiple video streaming servers. By using multiple storage units, edge server complexes can be configured to support more than 100 TB of intelligently managed solid-state cache capacity.
 
— Cox now is offering its Connect2Compete Internet program nationwide, offering $9.95 monthly broadband to families with children who qualify for the National Free School Lunch program in any Cox market.
