RCN Metro Optical Networks has announced plans to extend its network from New York City into Toronto, Canada. Beginning in May, RCN Metro will offer the region low-latency Ethernet services including switched Ethernet, "burstable" Ethernet and full-rate up to 1 Gigabit Ethernet.
 
"After New York and Chicago, Toronto represents the third largest financial services center in North America," said Felipe Alvarez, president of RCN Metro, in a statement. "The city of Toronto is home to many of the world’s top banks as well as Canada’s largest banks."
