Party Scene
Discovery Nets resurrected its tradition of providing the finest in victuals and libation for media Mon night with a 4-course/4-wine event at Cuvee, complete with jazz trio, fortunetellers and aura readers (funny, the fortune teller didn’t say anything about Gore coming to National). — Heard Emeril himself was freshening drinks at Scripps’ excellent reception Mon night at Delmonico’s (gosh, like to get an invite next time). — Sure we’re biased, but we’ve heard only good things about our Faxies awards reception at the Harper Mansion Mon night (nice of Paul Maxwell to open his 2nd home to us). It was a pleasure to see so many of our readers enjoying themselves. — GSN hit ’21’ Mon night at Harrah’s, providing guests with $5K in faux chips for blackjack and awarding Sony flatscreens to top scorers (NCTA’s Dan Brenner was among the winners). Amusing to see the look of bewilderment on the face of Charter’s Maggie Bellville as even GSN blackjack expert Max Rubin’s tips didn’t help her hand. — Fox Cable dined (and amply wined) scribes at the excellent 201 Restaurant & Bar. Try the sweet potato bread pudding. — Al Green drew a crowd Mon at MTV’s House of Blues concert. His memorable performance was accompanied by a wonderful backup band and some great dancers. Al’s still got it! — A couple of very sensible events buffeted the craziness of National: CTAM’s quiet Italian dinner Sun night with the speakers from Sun’s opening session and ESPN’s laidback media do Sun afternoon at the Wine Loft with George Bodenheimer & co. Both helped ease harried scribes’ before the shooting began.
