The 30-second spot isn’t dead, even among DVR users, ESPN svp/research chief Artie Bulgrin says, based on his just-wrapped DVR research that shows 60% of viewing in DVR HHs is done ‘live,’ (ie, no fast-forwarding). His national sample of 1K DVR HHs shows 30% of respondents use features (FF, rewind, pause) religiously. The research also indicated the majority of HHs had purchased their DVRs within the past 6 months, 85% own just one and 68% of viewing is done to the TV that’s connected to the DVR. Bulgrin made his comments at Carat USA’s luncheon Thurs led by Carat evp Mitch Oscar and funded by CEO David Verklin, and one of the few places where you can find cable ops breaking bread with DBS reps. — Shirley Brady
