iControl Networks—whose investors include Comcast Ventures, Comporium and Rogers Communications—has partnered with Netgear to launch an Android-based touchscreen enabling smart home features and other features including a music app letting users stream iTunes, lighting control and Google Maps with traffic alerts. The STS7000 device also comes with a failsafe mechanism to support over-the-air software upgrades, a removable and replaceable battery for extended device life and a durable industrial design.

“Consumers have rapidly adopted large-screen Android and iOS tablets as the primary interface for countless applications,” said Paul Dawes, senior vice president and general manager at iControl. “Our partnership with NETGEAR allows us to offer smart home customers a high-end touchscreen experience at a low price point, providing a breakthrough product for connected home security.”
