The suspense regarding the mystery SCTE Cable-Tec Expo keynoter is over. Entrepreneur and inventor (think Segway) Dean Kamen, founder of DEKA Research & Development Corporation, will headline the opening general session on Oct. 17 in Orlando, joining Mike LaJoie, executive vice president/CTO at Time Warner Cable and chairman of the SCTE Board of Directors, on stage for a Q&A, including how DEKA’s development of the Stirling Engine can enable cable to provide powering capabilities from the network edge…Just in time, American Tower Corporation wrapped the deployment of a network-optimization project aimed at supporting the increased communication and data needs of the more than 35,000 delegates, visitors and media attending this week’s Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. The project consisted of three solutions: an outdoor Wi-Fi network, an in-building Distributed Antenna System (IDAS) network and an outdoor DAS network.
