Distributed antenna systems (DAS) from Corning MobileAccess, part of Corning Incorporated’s Telecommunications segment, have been deployed at 12 major locations in Tampa, Fla., and in Charlotte, N.C., to support the Republican and Democratic national conventions. The DAS in the Tampa Convention Center this week covers the facility’s 600,000 square feet; The convention center serves as a hub for the thousands of media representatives covering the 2012 Republican National Convention. Charlotte Douglas International Airport deployed the Corning MobileAccess DAS to provide wireless coverage and capacity throughout 1.8 million square feet of terminal space…Miss.-based C Spire Wireless says it experienced virtually no network impact from slow moving Hurricane Isaac,” now downgraded to a tropical storm. Company officials report call volumes and data traffic as being “higher than normal, but the network continues to perform well, with over 99 percent of its cell sites operating with no power or service problems. A handful of cell sites are on back up batteries or emergency generators due to loss of commercial power.”
