Alaska-based GCI tapped Interop Technologies, a provider of core wireless solutions for advanced messaging, over-the-air handset management and connectivity gateways, to provide multiple wireless solutions, including the Interop Short Message Service Center (SMSC), Multimedia Messaging Service Center (MMSC), Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Gateway, Messaging Personalization and Control (MPAC) solution, and CDMA Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system. The operator currently uses the Interop Technologies hosted Common Short Code (CSC) Gateway and CDMA Over-the-Air (OTA) provisioning system. GCI plans to launch the Interop solutions in 4Q12 via a modified-hosted deployment, where Interop manages the solutions but the technology resides at GCI’s network operations center. In separate but related Interop news, Iowa’s Chat Mobility and Northwest Missouri Cellular (NorthwestCell) will use the company’s MMSC, Wireless WAP Gateway, CSC Gateway and OTA device provisioning platform with integrated IVR…VUDU (Walmart’s subscription-free video-streaming service) and Roku launched the VUDU streaming channel on all Roku 2, Roku HD (model 2500) and Roku LT streaming players in the United States and coming to the Roku Streaming Stick in October.
