History – CIVIL WAR 150 interactive
The depth and attention to detail on History’s excellent site to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War is literally breathtaking. Our judges found themselves getting sucked into every aspect of this site, whether examining the 5 deadliest battles, learning exactly how people died (two thirds died of disease, not bullets), analyzing the weapons used, exploring the demographics of the soldiers and even learning how both sides financed the war. In all cases, the info-graphics are incredible—giving enough information to satisfy while backing off before anything gets confusing or jumbled. And it’s not all just slick presentation. As you’d expect, History consulted with historians and made sure to accurately portray the conflict. In fact, in Oct 2011 the U.S. Library of Congress selected the interactive experience for inclusion in the American Civil War Sesquicentennial Web Archives. Now that’s an endorsement!
