Marjorie Kaplan

Title: Pres/GM, Animal Planet
Age: I’m old enough to know better than to answer that question!
Education: BA, Brown

Why Her? Kaplan has brought a certain edge to Animal Planet’s slate, focusing more on visceral content that includes plenty of lions, tigers and bears… oh my. The entertaining and socially astute Whale Wars offers a compelling look at a serious subject while innovative shows like Jockeys and River Monsters continue to perform well. Kaplan also loves developing ideas, and she’s working hard on new series with titles like Cowboys, Superfetch and Operation: Biorecon. Can’t wait.

Numbers Game: Animal Planet has been posting record ratings. Kaplan’s challenge will be sustaining the momentum into ’10.

Year Ahead:

Kaplan has plenty of success on which to build as she develops more shows and nurtures those with growing followings.

Biggest Hurdle for Cable: Cable has too many challenges to list in 50 words. But not as many as broadcast. That’s what makes this business so exciting, right?

Trait I Most Admire in People: Inspiration: I’m inspired by the enormous creative and business challenges that we face every day and the power of this medium to change people’s lives.
