Crafting a new name to match the changing new times, Miss.-based wireless carrier Cellular South now will be known as C Spire Wireless. According to President and CEO Hu Meena, the old moniker was "more about the cellular telephone business and where we did it. We wanted a name that allowed us to broaden our horizons."

The name C Spire is derived from "C" for "customer" and from the word "inspire." C Spire Wireless officially launches operations on Monday, Sept. 26, with new signage at its 85 retail stores. Customer-service reps have been prepared to educate subscribers about the changes.

The carrier says its new website, which goes live on Monday at cspire.com "is like nothing else in the industry, (and) offers a personalized experienced speci?c to each individual customer.”

Meena stresses that the name change is part of a bigger strategy to offer personalized wireless services, including such things as app recommendations, social-media integration, online panels and focus groups. He adds, "Most traffic today is data traffic."

As such, C Spire Wireless has developed a series of proprietary systems it says will enable it to discover new ways to interact with customers and to give customers a personalized wireless experience. It also will offer subscribers the ability to control a variety of devices wirelessly, including computers, TVs, DVRs and digital cameras.
