Cox Communications has further expanded its switched digital video (SDV) architecture to new markets with BigBand Network’s SDV solution. Deployed in both Motorola and Cisco set-top box environments, Cox uses the solution to deliver more HDTV programming and services to more screens by increasing the bandwidth efficiency of its network.

Cox began deploying the BigBand SDV solution in 2007. This latest expansion allows Cox to leverage its existing network infrastructure investments and send more programming to its subscribers without service disruption.

“SDV is one of our key tools to address the bandwidth demands critical to delivering a wide variety of quality programming and services to our customers,” said James Kelso, VP/Video Engineering for Cox, in a statement.
