Optimum Lightpath, which provides Ethernet-based solutions for New York City businesses, says its Managed Video service now supports 1.485 GB linear uncompressed HD-SDI over dedicated wavelengths.

The update targets media production facilities, broadcasters, television stations, video relay bureaus and content distributors that want to transport video of live events to various local destinations. The service is available footprint-wide, supporting real-time transport of uncompressed high-def video over Optimum Lightpath’s 100-percent fiber network.

Managed Video now can accept, transport and deliver native compressed and uncompressed digital video in common industry formats, including ASI, SDI and HD-SDI. Optimum Lightpath manages encoding and decoding as well as installation, operation and maintenance of all related equipment for Managed Video.

The carrier says its video-transport services are different from such competing technologies as satellite or video delivered over public networks because of minimized jitter, mitigated wind and weather implications. The services are sold based on flat-rate pricing, with Optimum Lightpath Video Transport service based on bandwidth needed, and Managed Video pricing based on video protocol and compression needed.
