If the FCC won’t abolish a rule requiring cable operators to only deploy set-tops that can support CableCARDs after July 1, ’06, it should at least move the deadline to 2008 or later, Comcast said in a letter to the Commission Wed. Execs met with FCC officials this week to urge the agency to "defer the integration ban for a minimum of 18 months if it is not yet persuaded of the need to eliminate [it] altogether." The FCC will re-evaluate the ban before year-end. NCTA has said it takes 18 months for ops to have boxes ordered and delivered.
